Mid notes: Jasmine, rose, birch, patchouli, black pepper.

Base notes: Oakmoss, ambergris, musk, vanilla.

Wardlaw may be one of our first releases, but already it has a fan club amongst those who have been kind enough to test this scent for me.  During the naming process we ended up referring to it as ‘young man’ which looks much creepier on paper than it is meant to sound but it really has a stunning masculinity to the scent, almost like an aftershave.

This candle is named after the Roman fort which stands atop the Wardlaw hill.  This location, if you don’t know it or haven’t been, is absolutely incredible.  Sitting over 300 feet above sea level you will see views across Caerlaverock, to New Abbey and to England from one spot.  A deliberate planting of trees around the fort gave the Romans and the Scottish an incredible vantage point to watch for invading armies unnoticed. Nowadays it is full of wildlife and flowers, the sights and the smells are nothing short of spectacular.

The Wardlaw is especially important to me because my friend David used to hold his Easter Sunday service at the top.  It’s also an incredible place to literally blow away any and all your cobwebs when you it.  I think he would have enjoyed the giggles at the ‘young man’ smell!

If you don’t know about our candles, they are hand poured in Caerlaverock in small batches. We keep the reduce, reuse, recycle ethos at the centre of everything we do which is why we chose a natural wax mix (rapeseed oil, coconut oil) from a sustainable and ethical source, wooden wicks that contain no paraffin and can be traced through the FSC to ensure they are sustainable and our fragrance oil is of high quality, paraben free and delivered in aluminium bottles to ensure there is no waste product in the manufacturing process either. We have selected metal tins so that you can pop them into your recycling bin or wash them out and resuse them for any number of things.

Our melts are 100% soy wax from an ethical and sustainable source in Europe to make sure it doesn’t contribute to any deforestation, we don’t add any glitter or mica to prevent creating waste products during the pouring process. They are packaged in glassine bags which are compostable and biodegradable and all of our labels are recycled and can be recycled again due to the water based inks.

I can’t wait to hear what you think of this scent.
